Recommended destinations

Comporta, the pearl of portugal

Located about 60km south of Lisbon, Comporta is a quiet town surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean, sand dunes and rice fields. No nightclubs here ! You can stroll around the beautiful shops and admire the pretty fishermen's huts. For some, these houses on stilts give the town an Asian feel, and the white sandy beaches remind them of the Hamptons in New York. However, Comporta has its own atmosphere, where people live in the moment with a very calm rhythm of life in the heart of nature. Indeed, Comporta is best known for its tranquillity and the birds have understood this. More than 200 species have decided to settle here and if you look up, you will surely see storks perched in their nests. The town also attracts many surfers who come to enjoy the beautiful spots and the calm atmosphere.

All in all, Comporta is one of the most typical cities in Portugal, and by discovering it you can get a good overview of the country. Known for only a few years by tourists, it will not become the new Ibiza, but it will keep the tranquillity that characterises it.
Discover the authentic villages in the area, where traditions have survived over the centuries. Praia do Prego, Muda, Grandola and Troia all have their own particularities. The customs and simplicity reign in these small villages where the locals meet daily in the cafes to discuss and spend time together. It is this familiar and reassuring atmosphere that envelops visitors in the tranquillity of a holiday.

The wealth of comporta

Welcome to one of the most beautiful region in Portugal ! Comporta, with its fishing villages and breathtaking landscapes, has a lot to offer

There is a nature reserve covering more than 12,000 hectares that is a must-see ! Due to its size, it is spread over several towns including Comporta, much to the delight of its inhabitants who try to preserve these areas as best they can. The famous rice fields of Comporta are also very protected places because they shelter an incredible fauna and flora. You can visit them on foot, by bike or even on horseback ! It is also possible to rent paddles to discover these rice fields from the water. At the entrance to the village, there is also the "museu do arroz" to immerse yourself in the history of Comporta through the cultivation of rice in Portugal.

One of the most recommended activities to do in Comporta is a boat trip. This way, you can admire the coast from the ocean to get another view of this wonderful village. Some companies also offer horseback riding on the sand by the water, a memory that will stay with you for a long time !
It is nice to taste local specialities with your feet in the fine, warm sand of Comporta's beaches. The Comporta Café, for example, is located on the beach and offers a variety of drinks including the famous white Sangrias. For a taste of fresh fish, head to O'Dinis for an experience you'll remember for a long time. Black rice is also a speciality of the region, and one of the best known restaurants to make it is Sal's.
If you want to take home a souvenir, Comporta also has countless small shops where you can find lovely seaside-themed decorations.

For the more sporty, there are tennis courts and golf courses. It is also advisable to go on treks or bike rides with your family in the village and its surroundings. The quiet family atmosphere makes you feel at home !
